How to Get Your Prayers Answered
“… whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.”(Matt 16:23). Getting your prayers answered is the realization of this wonderful scripture.
Have you experienced that the moment you just got to know God, just got to know Jesus, somehow your prayers were being answered speedily? I mean, you pray for toothpaste in the night and in the morning it is delivered. You could say your prayers were given express treatment. Well, let’s understand the reason for that change and how you can continue to experience that better express treatment in prayers with the one principle below.

Of course like every newborn, a young Christian is also given extra treatment the moment they join the family of God. However, just also like no mother wants to see their baby remain a baby forever without being able to creep, walk for themselves and feed themselves, so also God has no pleasure in seeing you remain the ‘give me this, give me that’ type of a child. He wants to see you grow into maturity and take responsibility. Moving from the stage where everything is given you to when you are taught how to get everything for yourselves.
Therefore as a growing citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven, the one sure way to always get your prayers answered is by;
Meditation is the act of silently waiting and listening from God during prayers. Once you have told God all your challenges and reminded Him about His word, the next thing is to sit, wait and listen to His soft still voice for direction. However, most at times, we just bump up on God, tell Him all our troubles and say “in Jesus name I have prayed” and off we go. Then God goes “wait, wait, wait…, don’t go yet, I haven’t given you my response about the matter” but then, we are long gone. Imagine such discussion format with your Mom/Dad – you will never know their plans for you.
Prayer literally means discussion, so you aren’t giving God instructions, rather you are discussing with Him. So when you have spoken, sit quiet and careful listen to His reply. It may sound strange because we are always in a hurry, we want fast everything, but why not wait and get answers immediately than to wake up and go hoping that fast answers ‘will’ come.
Meditating during prayers could also be just silently pondering, reflecting, visualizing and personalizing God’s promises – scriptures that talk about your issue. Remember God will never speak anything to you that is out of His word. The end result of this exercise is always revelation, direction, instruction, encouragement and comfort. Like Isaiah 1:18, take the time to reason with God.
Why will God stop giving you free blessings and express answers while you grow as His child? The answer to that is found in Galatians 4:1. The thing with a slave is they don’t bother about what to eat or wear, because their master responsibility for that.
A good story account to remember is that of the Israelites in the wilderness. After Egypt, God literally supplied everything to these guys. They will ask and complain about food, meat, water and God supplied it all to them and even fought their battles. I mean, fresh heavenly bread supplied from Heaven’s bakery daily, healthy birds offering themselves for meat, fresh water from the rock, bio-clothes and shoes, enemies being personally annihilated by God what could be freer? No hunting nothing, everything free. However, once these people left the wilderness and entered Canaan, all these things ceased. They had to take personal responsibility (Deut 2:24) to get what belonged to them, fight, hunt, cook and do everything by themselves. The baby care days were over.
If answers ain’t coming quickly anymore for you, it is probable that you are in your post-baby care days. So God doesn’t just want to give you money for bills again, rather He wants to show you how to make more money than you could imagine (Deut 8:18). He is more interested in giving us ideas, on how to go about every challenge than just miracle-ly solving them for us. In that way we will grow up into responsibility. And also you feel more in command (dominion) when you successfully get things done by yourself with His help.
Allocate More Time to Prayers
Remember, the Holy Spirit Who is responsible for relaying to you all the answers from God when you are praying (Jn 16:13-15) is a gentle man. Reason why you can’t force Him into responding when you meditate. Always ensure you have the time and freedom of mine to wait and listen to Him. Don’t be in hurry to catch up the next appointment, better don’t pray at such intervals. If you having a diplomatic talk with the King of kings as His ambassador on earth, on how to solve earth’s challenges, you can’t afford to be in a hurry. Be still, and you will be amazed how loud He speaks!
Practice Spontaneity in Prayers
Prayers has been given a nebulous perspective recently and many just feel heavy the moment they hear the word. But really, “prayer is literally terrestrial kids discussing and having a great time with their celestial Dad”. What is complicated in that? Meanwhile having regular prayer times like in the morning and evening is of utmost importance, it is good practice to pray spontaneously along the day. This way your mind is less clustered with anxiety and so your spirit is more receptive. Remember the best of discussions are always spontaneous and unplanned. God longs to show you great things (Jer 33:3), but you have just have to be willing to wait on Him like King David (2 Sam 2:1). Get quiet before the King and you will be amazed how loud He speaks!
It’s been my greatest pleasure sharing these principles with you, pray they bring about a radical change as you apply them. For more insight on effective prayers, I will love to recommend the book on prayers.
